Beauvoir: Dear Nietzsche, I want so much to question you on your understandings of ressentiment, as I am writing on my approach to a similar concept, one I call â€Å"bad faith†. Tis a good name for it, no? Nietzsche: That is a truth, I do proclaim, however - on which aspect do you find similarities? I must confess, I know little of your writings. I do not often defect from this mountainside. If we are to come to a thorough understanding of the views that we hold, we must first lay out the question at hand. Beauvoir: Oh, but how quaint! I refer, of course, to a basis of reasoning which lies in what is real, true, and understandable. I believe you would refer to them as products of self-determination? Certainly, the question I wish to air lies†¦show more content†¦Nietzsche: Rightly so, I declare. I believe we agree, although you would separate the role of men and women, and I would not be so bold. I have seen the atrocities of faith as well. I have a true vision of ho w men should approach life, which is - as a friend of mine once said - â€Å"for that man may be freed from the bonds of revenge: that is the bridge to my highest hope and a rainbow after protracted storms† . This vision is conflicted by the tendencies of man, as they have invented something that holds them back from their true selves. This invention takes place in the idea of faith. This faith seeks to hold back humans from further development, to reaching their true potential. Those that believe in their faith, I would call the â€Å"despisers of the body† (Nietzsche 61). They are unhealthy, and wish to spread the pathogens of their invention to infect others with faith; the word of God . Beauvoir: Ah yes, you must know that I am concerned with the plight of women, of oppression, of systematic suffering at the hands of denial of humanity and the stripping of one’s reality. I think that the tendency of invention that you speak of lies in a systemized persecuti on of women, though I wish to hear more of your concept. Therefore, I would focus on more of a societal structure, in politics mainly, for my analysis of that which is regarded as bad faith. Though you would view this concept
